Grain Boundaries

Defined as the boundary separating two small grains of crystals having different crystallographic orientations

• Atomic mismatch is present in the transition from one grain orientation to another

Slight orientation mismatch is termed as a small-angle grain boundary

• Tilt boundary - formed from edge dislocations
• Twist boundary - result of screw dislocations
