Complete Derivation for Orthorhombic Symmetry
Using tensor transformations.
Objective: Introduce to students to using tensor transformations for
determining elastic anisotropic symmetries listed by Nye.
Specifically complete the derivation for orthorhombic
symmetry outlined in Figure 11.
Prerequisites for Student: Lectures based on material in section 4.1
Introduction to Mechanical Behavior of Anisotropic Materials.
Complete the derivation for orthorhombic symmetry as outlined in Fig. 11 using
fourth order tensor transformation and show how the 21 independent elastic
constants reduce to 9, as shown in Nye's diagram, see Fig. 10.
